River Safety
We share the Brisbane River with other rowers, coaches, commercial and pleasure crafts. Safety is critical to all of us.
-
LIGHTING
Rowing boats (training or competing) on the Brisbane River need to be fitted with an all-round white flashing light if they operate between the hours of sunset and sunrise. These all-round white lights must be attached to the bow and stern, allowing 360° visibility for 2 nautical miles (Maritime Safety Queensland directive). Any powered vessel accompanying rowers must display the required lights of a powered vessel under the COLREGS (Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea), namely red and green sidelights and a single white light with 360° visibility.
-
CAPS
Rowing Queensland also requires all rowers on the Brisbane River to each wear a Day/Night standard high visibility safety cap, coloured dayglow orange with reflective tape sewn onto the brim, to identify the presence of rowers in all light conditions. This is an agreed initiative of the Brisbane River Users Group which includes the City Cats (Transdev). These caps are available from the Club for all rowers and coxswains.

INCIDENT REPORTING
Electronic Forms are available here for submission. Please report any breaches of the Brisbane River Code of Conduct, and any reports will be investigated. The main purpose of any follow up to these reports will be to help educate river users and make our training environment safer.
